About Ministry of Movement

Way back in the year 1999, when I followed my passion and decided the fitness industry would provide a suitable form of employment for me, I didn't really know what to expect. I probably never imagined still being involved in the industry after 17 years. However I'm still here and I still love it! There are so many aspects of my work that I love. The individuals I help on a daily basis constantly challenge me. Everyone is so different that teaching the same exercise to 10 different people needs to be done 10 different ways. I love learning and challenging myself to keep pushing my body to do new things. I can pass this on to the people I train. I love seeing the changes in people after many hours of effort to achieve goals they sometimes didn't think they could ever reach.

I have worked as a personal trainer in London and Sydney on an extended Kiwi O.E. Now I'm back in Wellington and I'm ready for my next challenge...to help my fellow Wellingtonians improve and change their lifestyle choices through the Ministry of Movement.

To put it simply movement and good health are intrinsically linked. You can't have one and not the other. Try and think of someone you know who you believe to be healthy and I bet they move well and move often. When I say movement I mean movements that challenge the brain and the body. Stimulating the brain and the body has positive effects on many of the body's internal systems which in turn promote good health.

Often when we think of an image of good health we picture an athlete or someone athletic. These people perform at the top of their chosen fields and wow crowds with their use of the human body. It is easy to feel that these feats are out of reach for us so we do not even try to get started on the road to performing them. We make ourselves feel better by saying "those guys are freaks" and you know what, maybe they are. But that doesn't mean we can't at least try.

That is why I have started the ministry of movement. I know and understand how important movement is to good health and wellbeing. I understand complex movement and how it can improve the health of your brain, central nervous system and muscular system. I have spent years learning, practicing and refining my teaching techniques to allow me to help adults learn new movement skills. As adults, we try to learn movements the way we did when growing up, it becomes frustrating and we give up. Our mature bodies and brains often takes a few more steps and a bit more time, but with a little effort, the benefits can be very powerful to those that try.

Through the Ministry of Movement I want to help people see the ability they were born with and then start using it to improve their health and well being.
